General Chat Forum:: Happy Birthday....
Hi Phil,

Happy Birthday again.

PS I don't remember the stars ever going super nova in Dr Who. I do remember that all the planets were getting stolen, and all the stars went out of the sky.

Mind you I still prefer Tom Baker era where all the stars were actually dangled on a piece of fishing line and blown with an industrial fan , and the aliens were made out of bubblewrap painted green.

Asimov

Lighting, Rendering & FX in 3ds Max:: How did I do this?
It's a shame, but I have created much better than this, but the work is currently still in proof of concept so I can't show you anything at the moment.

I am currently employing FumeFX, Afterburn, Rayfire, procedural materials and some really simple but elegant KY trails effects.. Project should be ready to publish around June/July.

Hi renderbydesign,

I haven't had much luck with realflow. It crashes more times than the Chinese stock market. I have got some really good simulations going, but when I mesh them it crashes nearly everytime, even on low settings.

If you have a computer of Pixar proportions go for it, but unless you have a really powerful computer don't bother with realflow.

Asimov

Modeling in 3ds Max::[unsolved] Simple fix... I just don't know how?
No worries.
We've all had to start somewhere but usually that 'somewhere' isn't the deep end nor on a time limit.

Video's will be more useful to you than ref books....if you can see someone doing the process its easier to understand. Not only that but 10 mins of video contains a lot more info than reading for 10 mins.

The videos that come with Max were written with this in mind and are the ideal place to start.

Regards.

[Unpaid] Job Announcements:: [UNPAID - Experienced, Blender/OBJ ] BIONICLE: Next Generation Recruitment
I tried Blender after seeing some amazing animations created in it. To be honest, had any of us started to use Blender prior to picking up max, we would probably view max in the same way. It's what you know. i personally can't get my head around the GUI in blender and because i already know most of my way around Max, the interest in blender died in minute of playing with it. I am the same with Maya. It is only applications that offer something new that will keep your interest. Zbrush is a prime example of this.

That said, most CG applications allow for export to others, so there should be no reason why someone who knows nothing about Blender, but understands Max, could quite easily slip into a role creating assets for a Blender project. The principles are the same after all.

I have been busy with the CGFX project, so I have not really had much time to drop in. Brian I know is moving house in the next few weeks, so he will be really busy too.
