Hi all, Remember in my last post I said I had to build something difficult, well here it is. Well I have to add a few little details here and there but it is 98% finished.
I have also started to experiment with mentalray, and some texturing.
Would you believe it took me 7 hours to build this. Think I am slowly getting the hang of polys thanks to Dave and BJS3D.

Hi all, Just added a few new items to the factory track. I am testing wall textures at the moment as well. I think I got a texture which is close to the original, and it saves having that black background.
Still I have however a lot of work to do yet. And when this is all finished it has to be animated.

Hi all,
Just made the small thingymajigs that the tools attach to. Wasn't happy with them at first, but with texturing I think I got them better. Plenty of time to get more realism when I finished modelling though.

Hey, nice work man! You're getting good at this! So what is this project for anyway?

Hi Dave,
This is for work. They have asked me to make the whole track in 3D, and they are going to pay me for my time. To be honest if they went to someone else it would probably cost them a lot more. Basically at the end of it they want a 3D animation depicting the track for customers to see.
Although in the process of doing this I am learning a lot, so it's all good.
Took me a while to get the hang of polys, but I think I am getting there. Although I still get stuck on some things, but the secret I think is to keep plodding on, and asking lots of questions on the forum of course :) Also I am using feet and inches instead of metric because everything fits in feet, so something else I had to relearn.
Do you need a factory track in the game LOL?
My biggest problem is memory. I might work out how to do something and the next time I forget what I did the last time, but slowly things stick in your head.

Ditto on the memory bit. I have had several instances where I asked the teacher to show me something he'd shown before. But like you said, it sticks after a while... Unfortunately we didn't have time to get into animation and that teacher's quitting. Hopefully his replacement will be as skilled as he was.

Hi all,
I have been slowed in the building process by not having enough time to do more measurements, so I have been spending a bit of time doing a bit more background. The background isn't intended to be the focal point, but hopefully it will add to the final animation. Anyway here are a couple more pics to show.
If I was building this as a true representation of the factory I would add dirt and rust and stuff, but this is being built for customers to see and so they want it to look how it could in the future. I will be adding features that are not in the real factory soon, like animated LCD screens and stuff soon.
