Hi all,
I am learning how to use reactor. I got the cloth to fall and knock the teapot onto the mentalray water I have created. Now the question is how do I make it sink into the water instead of it being stuck on top.

Why aren't you using Reactor water?

Hi Dave,

I didn't know there was reactor water. I think I know why it stopped though. I added a water mentalray texture but reactor still thinks it is a solid.

Will have to do more experimentation on this.

Reactor water? I don't seem to have this in my modifiers.
is this a plugin?
I have reactor soft body and reactor cloth.

It's not really a plugin, it's just part of Reactor. I can't remember where, it's been about 8 years since I played around with it. Check the docs though.

Okay found it again: Reactor > Create Object > Water

Quote:
The reactor Water object allows you to simulate the behavior of a water surface. Objects can interact with the water in physically realistic ways, creating waves and ripples. reactor calculates a buoyancy value for any objects that fall into the water using their mass and size, so that some objects sink and others float. You can even change the density of a water object, which affects how objects float in it.

Water in reactor is a space warp that is simulated as water. Space warps don't render, so you need to provide reactor with a geometrical representation of the water if you want it to appear in your final animation. You do this by binding a plane or other geometry to the space warp. Note that a representation of the water still appears in the Preview Window even if you haven't done this.

I created this demonstration video: (Click the Full Screen icon to enlarge)

Hi Dave,

Just tried your tutorial and just sent 500 frames of animation to my render computer using backburner. I will say the only trouble I had was after adding the mental ray water texture I couldn't get it to reflect my sky texture, but that bit wasn't in the tutorial heh heh.

I made a very large plane and put my sky texture on it, and I made it a light source. I then put an omni light in the scene to try and light it up. My water came out dull. I will post my animation on here when it has rendered.

BTW Dave have you thought about working on radio. You have a distinctive voice.

Excellent.

There are many many ways to implement sky reflections on water and your method is one of them. Instead of lighting the plane with an omni light, make the sky material 100% self-illuminating.

When I want to make a reflection in a scene, I make a huge sphere around the scene, invert the normals and apply a 100% self-illuminating material to it.

LOL, radio huh? My voice is distinctive to you, a Brit, but here I'm just another local yocal.
