Hallo

Tutotorial Name : Rendering wireframe with a solid diffuse.

Hey all.

Get a model ready, im using a creature, you can download him at www.max-realms.com/models/monster.zip

Notice it’s a orange lizard Donated by Wardile

Okay now you need a plugin called texporter.

No link sorry, the plugin is free. I think u can get at max-realms. If not I suggest google.

Moving right along.

Get yer model and applie the texture that came with it.

Good thing I used this model, before this model is workable, r-click and convert the mesh to edit-able poly.

Now select all verts and do a vertex weld function.(set the weld threshold to 0.1) Now applie a uvw unwrap modifier and click on edit to see if it is all good. It should be.

Sweet. Now we can begin.

Okay applie the texture as the diffuse in the material editor (press M).

Now go to util’s and click configure button sets.

You will get this box. Scroll down until you see texporter. On the right there is a total buttons tab, make the number “1 higher value.” Scroll down on the right until you see the open box. Click and drag texporter to that open space.

Cool. Now click okay. Notice texporter is now available. Click on it.

This part needs attention.

ATTENTION  ATTENTION

ATTENTION

Okay change the width and height to an equal…. For instance 3000x3000

-You need something big.

-Click the backface cull tab (u don’t want any hidden poly’s)

-At the colorized by: section, change the constant color to white. Also click on constant.

-Click pick object and select the model, uncheck the polygon fill tab, otherwise the polys will be colored and u don’t want this right now.

Sweet that’s it.

Now it really gets hairy.

Save the output image.

ATTENTION

The output should look like this only a lot bigger.

Okay go back to material editor and click Standard Change that to a blend material. A window will pop up, just choose keep old-material as a sub material,

At the material 2 tab click on the box. Select the output image as the diffuse… roll out the map roll-out.

Click and drag the difuse box to the self illumination box, also to the opacity box.

Sweet dude.

Now go back by pressing the go to parent button. Marked in pink

Change the mix amount to 50 and notice its ½ solid and half wire.

I know the wire is poor, if u realy want something nice, I suggest amping up yer output image from texporter to about 4096x4096 (texporter’s maximum output). HAHAHAHA,,,, this is gonna kill my ram hehehehehe. Sorry.

Cool, now if you want the 1st ½ to be completely solid and the other ½ completely wire you need to applie a mask, Its just above mix amount.  You can trie a gradient ramp, but for best results I suggest you paint a mask in any program, corel, photoshop etc.

Note, for best result’s thicken the white lines a bit in yer 2-d app.

Because the wireframe is actually nothing more than a material the render may make it appear very faint.

If you know how to solve this, please let me know. (the knowledge belongs to the people)

If you want a tutorial on painting mask’s please contact me on Wardile@ananzi.co.za and request I do so… then I will, but until I know that someone actually uses this method I wont bother.

I don’t bite… well I trie not too, but I swear to you I don’t have rabies so no worries.

I cant show you an end result but it’s not worth showing, I suggest using the tutorial in the textures thread called mesh to solid. (its at www.max-realms.com  at the members thread area)

Bye
